Achieving great wealth online, I’m talking building serious six-figure income on an ongoing basis, can be accomplished through numerous means and vehicles, just as one can do so in the brick and mortar world.   However, the learning curve remains far more difficult to achieve for the masses working online than offline. 

Why is that?  Well for one thing, if we establish a storefront operation in our local home town we begin with a built-in client base of the persons we know, plus a certain percent of people that is going to come in contact with our store daily.  After all, if your store faces the street, someone is bound to see you.

In the online world we are faced with many obstacles when it comes to making money online.  First and foremost, you need traffic.  For without visitors, you can’t hope to sell anyone.  For this reason, if you’re going to strike it rich online you will need to know basic SEO (search engine optimization) techniques. 

If you’re running a retail organization online you’ll have to have more competitive pricing than you might can get away in the brick and mortar world.  Competition will be heavy and there are numerous ways these days to make searches for products by price. 

Search engines are not the only way one can drive traffic to a web site.  There are many other ways and we’ll either cover them in future articles or do so in our WorkatHomePro.com or eSalesman.com blog.  Another way of garnering traffic from search engines is by buying traffic through the search engines PPC (pay per click) program.  Google refers to their PPC program as their Adwords program.  Whenever you perform a search on Google you’ll see paid ads at the top and right side of page that one can purchase to drive traffic to a site.  In the beginning, until you can become established online and drive traffic organically, the Adwords program is an excellent method, but be warned, depending on your niche, the traffic can become very expensive.

If site traffic is your number one obstacle, what is number 2?  Well, that’s pretty hard to say because many things can cause you number 2 obstacle to vary.  However, I would have to say it would be the number and quality of the competition you’re up against.  If there are already numerous established players in your market niche then you’re going to have to build a better mousetrap.  Building a better mousetrap is really what this site is all about, as we want to show you ways in the future to spot your shortcomings and teach you how to beat your competition online.

If you run Google Adsense ads on your site and you write good, ligitmate content, you know one thing about Adsense — it takes a ton of traffic to make good income with Adsense.  Why?  Because when people find good content they read it, they don’t spend time reading and clicking ads. 

There are many ways to optimize a site for high search engine placement, as well as many ways to design a web page to achieve maximum click-through rates.  I’ve personally witnessed clickthrough rates of others run as high as 22% on a consistent basis because they wrote boring blane content by design and had optimum ad placements. 

I copied this business model once in a test site and achieved the same results.  I currently experience clickthrough rates in low single digits because I purposely write content that is intended to be useful, entertaining and valuable.   I try to make up for the clickthrough losses on traffic volume by writing content people want to read and increasing my traffic each month.

The chances are high that if you have low clickthrough rates you’re writing quality content and eventually you’ll get enough traffic that you’ll make up for low clickthrough rates with the sheer number of your clickthrough’s increasing as your site traffic increases. 

As far as ad placement is concerned, don’t look at the ads on this site and think I’ve spend time optimizing their placement.  One can get much higher clickthrough rates with a leaderboard ad below the header graphic that falls near the center of the screen on your laptop and a skyscraper ad in place of your left-side menu column and your men on the right side than you’ll acheive with a right-side skyscraper and in-text ads like I have here. 

According to Adsense terms and conditions I can’t share my Adsense experience in detail with you.  So suffice it to say I’ve made as high as six-figures annually running Google Adsense sites and acheived clickthroughs 10 times what I read about in most forums using two simple techniques that I no longer practice.   One was ad placement and the second was boring content.   When someone lands on a page with boring content they have 4 choices:  (1) hit the back button on their web browser, (2) hit the exit button on their web browser, (3) look at another page on the site, and (4) click on an ad. 

At the end of the day you have to ask yourself what kind of site do you want to write.  As for me, there’s too many ways to make money online other than Adsense to purposely write content that pushes users into a “click and get” mode.  You only get one visit from those type of users because you have nothing of value to pull them back.  Webmasters and blog writers that write with that mentality have no clue about the value of site stickyness.  The ultimate way to acheive site stickyness, ever-growing traffic numbers and higher ad payouts from Adsense or affiliate sources is to write good content and to write often.  Keep that in mind as you craft your own site and blaze your own path online.

I still get a chuckle when a rookie Internet entrepreneur asks me how many days will it take to become a millionaire.  The chuckle is initiated by not one, but by several reasons.  One, because I can remember when I was that naive and thought I could whip the world and the Internet at the same time.  Two, because to do so in days would require someone with several years experience in SEO and a unique understanding of how to drive enough traffic to a website to produce enough sales to accomplish the “millionaire” status.  Three, it would require a unique product or product line that is either (1) in demand, or (2) solves a problem or fills a void in consumers lives.

The point is this, show me a thousand Internet marketing rookies and I’ll show you 999 that lack the qualities I mention in number two and three above, but are naive enough to think it can be done.  But can it be done?  That’s still an excellent question.  The answer is “Yes” — it is possible to make millions online in a brief period of time, but the people that did it were (1) special — gifted beyond years in Internet marketing techniques, and (2) had tried and failed several times on their way to learning enough to score huge sales and profits on their way to riches.  So the questions I ask most rookies is, “Are you special?  Do you know more about Internet market, SEO, product creation, writing techniques used by ad copy superstars and sale closing techniques than anyone you know?”  If so, then maybe you have a chance. 

If you don’t have these qualities, you’ll have to resign to either acquire this information from others (at a cost of thousands), or you can learn tricks of the trade from people like me that are willing to spoon feed smart enough to realize that there are no “get rich quick” schemes that work for everyone, there are no millionaires willing to teach others how to compete against them doing the very same thing they do and there are no ways to become wealthy online that don’t require time and dedication to operate. 

Ask yourself another question.  “If a given work from home millionaire’s secret to riches is so good and makes so much money, why does he have to sell books to give his secret to others?”  The answer is the obvious.  You even know what the answer is already.  But you’re not willing to admit that you know.  Because to admit it is to have to accept the truth, that there is no magic easy way to riches that works for everyone.  And that is what 99% of the Internet millionaire wannabe’s refuse to accept.  The answer of course, the one you don’t want to accept, is that the Internet guru you’re considering following is making most, if not all of his money, selling the very book that he claims will teach you the way to make millions also. 

I don’t make promises of instant wealth or any knowledge or discovery of a get rich quick scheme.  For now, I’m not even selling anything.  I achieved six-figure annual income online only after several years of reading, experimenting, failing and stumbling to finally realize how to put together all that I had learned and convert it into riches  — making over $1,000 per day at times and spending no more than a few minutes per day doing it.  So I know it can be done.  I know I can teach others.  But I also know there is a lot to learn.  Stick with me, read this website while you do whatever else in the world you choose to do, but over time you’ll come to figure out and conclude you’ve learned more from reading my blog than from any book or course you’ve wasted your hard-earned dollars on.  That’s all for today.  I will likely post 2 to 3 times per week.  So check back at least weekly for some true pearls of wisdom for making big money online.
